Choosing a Mask, Fins & Snorkel: Scuba Gear Basics

Hi this is John again. We're going to be talking about your personal gear. These are the items that you'll need to begin your certification process, fins, mask and a snorkel. You'll first and foremost need a mask that will not leak when you're under water. Your instructor will show you how to clear the mask. Also of importance is the no fog solution that you will put on the mask before you
enter the water. This is a solution that you will put on and rub into the lens and then rinse the water into the mask. This will cause it not to fog when you're under water, there's nothing more frustrating than being under water and you can not see your gauges or the person next to you because your mask is fogging up. Your fins, these right here, are set up, these are some of the latest design or propeller fins. They are set up to be maximum proportion with minimum effort. I've used these before and they do quite well. The snorkel I have here is a dry snorkel, what that means is once you're under the surface, the snorkel will close up at the top and when you surface, returning from the dive if you're skin diving and not using scuba, you do not have to clear the snorkel. This makes it a lot easier to work with when you're out on the sea.
