How to Buy Rods For Shark Fishing

Introduction
Shark fishing is a thrilling sport. To hook one of the ocean's biggest predators is exhilarating. You can't fish for sharks with a regular fishing rod. Shark fishing requires a particular type of rod. You can't find these rods just anywhere either.

Instructions
Difficulty: Easy

Step One
Buy rods for shark fishing at upper-end sporting goods stores. The average sporting goods stores don't usually carry the kind of rods you must have for shark fishing. A marina that carries fishing supplies will often have these kinds of rods for sale.

Step Two
Look for a heavy-action rod that is at least 10 feet long when you buy rods for shark fishing. The rod needs to have a long handle with a good forearm grip. The forearm grip is located right above the spot on the rod where the reel goes. There will be a handle, then the spot for the reel and then the forearm grip.

Step Three
Check to see if the rod has a round knob on the end of the handle. Most shark rods have this round knob as a safety measure. When you are engaged in a battle with a big shark, you can hold the rod end against your stomach to brace for the fight. The rounded knob lets you put more pressure on your stomach without hurting yourself.

Step Four
Know that most shark rods will have steel or stainless steel eyelets that the fishing line threads through. The tip of a good rod for shark fishing needs to have a roller going across that keeps the line moving through the eyelets. This is important because the line tension gets tremendous when you're struggling with a large shark.

Step Five
Purchase a rod made of fiberglass or graphite when you buy one for shark fishing. Graphite is stronger. It's also more expensive.

Tips & Warnings
    * When you buy rods for shark fishing, be prepared for a wide price range. The better rods cost anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars to thousands of dollars.
